Mets starter Clay Holmes' six-innings of one-hit ball on Saturday compelled manager Carlos Mendoza to use descriptions like "unbelievable... amazing," as the Mets kept their postseason hopes alive with a 5-0 win. Mendoza also praised 1B Pete Alonso with "setting the tone" with an RBI double in the opening inning, following it up with solo home run in the third inning and scoring on Jeff McNeil's RBI double in the sixth.

Mets starter Clay Holmes said "It definitely felt good," after shutting down the Marlins and he credited pitching from both sides of the rubber, which Holmes feels can confuse the opposition. Pete Alonso called Holmes' effort "lights out... he really stepped up." Alonso meanwhile continued  his career-long assault on Marlins pitching, ripping an RBI double in the first inning and solo bast in the third.

In addition to a terrible loss to the Marlins, the Mets lost one of their hottest hitters in September, Brett Baty, to an oblique that will probably sideline him for the final two games of the regular season. Baty discussed the injury and how he will do everything in his power to play.  Starter Brandon Sproat and Pete Alonso offered up their thoughts on the Marlins six-run fifth inning that saw Sproat allow four earned runs and Alonso fail to field a grounder cleanly that led to the Marlins taking the lead for good.

After a 6-2 loss to the Marlins dealt a huge blow to their Wild Card hopes, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza made it abundantly clear, "we put ourselves in this position... making the same mistakes again and again." Mendoza had even more bad news postgame that Brett Baty  suffered an oblique injury and it appears unlikely he will play this weekend.

Yankees captain Aaron Judge has been impressed with rookie Cam Schlittler's makeup ever since he was called up earlier this season but on Saturday, Schlittler took it to another level. Two hits and nine strikeouts over seven scoreless innings in a 6-1 Yankees win, leading 3B Ryan McMahon to label him a "dawg" on the mound. Each player admitted to keeping an eye on Toronto-Tampa Bay series, with the Yankees maintaining at least a share of the AL East lead heading into the season finale on Sunday.

For Yankees manager Aaron Boone, his team being "locked in and focused" is more important than what Toronto is doing as the battle for the AL East title continues after New York's 8-4 win over Baltimore. Giancarlo Stanton launched a pair of home runs and is getting increasingly more comfortable at the plate. Starter Will Warren appreciated the offensive support from Stanton and Aaron Judge who clubbed his 52nd HR of the season.
