HIs promising young teammate Ryan Clifford, homered, doubled and drove in three runs. Down in Single-A St. Lucie, the Mets 2025 top draft pick Mitch Voit, had a single, two walks, three stolen bases and an RBI in a 14-3 rout of Ft. Myers.

For Mets manager Carlos Mendoza, there were still some positives in Jonah Tong's loss Saturday night, especially his ability to make adjustments after allowing three home runs to the Reds. Tong managed to grind out six innings, finishing his outing with six Ks. Tong feels he needs to do a better job of being unpredictable and mixing in his off-speed pitches.

It was a rough second MLB start for Mets rookie Jonah Tong, as he surrendered three home runs in the Mets 6-3 loss to the Reds. New York had opportunities to cut into the deficit but went just 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

Mets closer Edwin Diaz detailed his "eventful" ninth inning that saw him pitch his way out of the ultimate jam: bases loaded, nobody out. Adding to the drama were his faulty cleats, which seemed to affect his delivery. Bullpen mate Ryne Stanek, who pitched his way out of trouble earlier in the game himself, called Diaz "Houdini" and "incredible" for his magic act. Mark Vientos, who homered and drove in two runs, was glad Diaz got out of the "sticky situation."

Mets manager Calos Mendoza says he had never seen a pitcher have to change his cleats in the ninth inning with the bases loaded and nobody out.
