Francisco Lindor, whose eighth inning HR put the Mets ahead for good in their eventual 6-2 win over the Cubs, said "it's pretty cool" that there can be a different hero every night. Starter Griffin Canning, who felt all his pitches were working through his six innings of work, also talked about how much fun it is to watch the Mets offense. Mark Vientos homered for the fourth time in the last five years on Mother's Day, conceding that "mommy power is real."

The Mets had every phase of their game going on Sunday according to manager Carlos Mendoza. Mark Vientos, Francisco Lindor and Brandon Nimmo all belted home runs, starter Griffin Canning was solid again over six innings and the bullpen closed out the 6-2 win courtesy of reliever Ryne Stanek. Vientos' home run and two RBI may be the result of a little competition from teammate Brett Baty for playing time. Mendoza acknowledges it's a challenge to get everyone in the lineup but "it's a nice problem to have."

Top Mets pitching prospect Jonah Tong pitched 6.2 perfect innings in the second game of a doubleheader for Double-A Binghamton in a 4-0 win over Reading. Reliever TJ Shook came on to get the final out of the seven-inning nitecap. Tong set a career-high with 13 strikeouts in a dominant performance. It was the first perfect game in Binghamton's franchise history.

Since his return from Triple-A, Brett Baty has been a whole new player. Baty had a pair of homers and drove in all the Mets runs in a 6-5 loss to the Cubs. He talked about being prepared at plate, using various training methods to hit the ball hard consistently. Tylor Megill advised Baty not to lose faith in his ability, having been sent to Triple-A a number of times during his career. Megill was not particularly sharp on the mound Saturday, allowing four runs in 4.2 innings but felt he navigated the Chicago lineup a little better after the first inning.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza is duly impressed with the hot streak Brett Baty is on after his two-homer, five RBI night in the Mets 6-5 loss to the Cubs. Unfortunately for Mendoza, the rest of the lineup failed to cash in on their run-scoring opportunities. Starter Tylor Megill did not have his best stuff either with his manager not seeing the same usual life on his fastball.

Mets pitching prospect Nolan McLean made his Triple-A debut a memorable one, striking out seven batters over seven shutout innings. His teammate Drew Gilbert, went deep again as Syracuse blanked Jacksonville 4-0.

Mets pitcher Clay Holmes' transition from reliever to starter continues to evolve. Holmes kept the Cubs in check, limiting them to a single run through six innings. He credited the movement on his sinker for the strong outing and Francisco Lindor for continuing to produce offensively in the leadoff spot, allowing the staff to settle in. Lindor returned the kudos to Holmes on his performance and as for the four home runs hit by the Mets, he offered that "it was just our day."

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza was impressed with the team's two-strike approach in the 7-2 win over the Cubs. Brett Baty provided the perfect example, drilling an opposite field home run on a 1-2 count. He also complimented Clay Holmes on his expanded pitching repertoire which allows him to go through the opposition's lineup several times.

The Mets blasted four solo home runs off Cubs starter Jameson Taillon, pounding out 13 hits in a 7-2 win. Francisco Lindor, Brett Baty, Jeff McNeil and Juan Soto all went deep while Clay Holmes delivered another quality start, allowing just one run over six innings.

Yankees

When Yankees first baseman Ben Rice said hitting can definitely be "contagious," he wasn't kidding. The offense exploded for 10 runs in the seventh inning as they turned a one-run game into a 12-3 rout of San Diego. Austin Wells belted a grand slam and had five RBI, Rice had a pair of hits and two RBI. Starter Clarke Schmidt allowed just two runs over six innings and got to talk a little smack with former teammate Michael King after the Yankees win.

Aaron Judge and Austin Wells both hit solo home runs but the rest of the lineup couldn't solve Rays starter Zack Littell in the Yankees 3-2 loss. Manager Aaron Boone and lead-off man Cody Bellinger both credited Littell with keeping the hitters guessing. Boone lamented the fateful eighth inning when Tampa mustered a two-run rally to take the lead saying their hits "had eyes." Starter Ryan Yarbrough pitched into the fifth  inning allowing just one hit but walking three batters which he said "was not the start I was looking for."

Max Fried tossed seven innings of one-hit ball and Paul Goldschmidt provided all the offense the Yankees would need with a three-run homer as they shut out the Rays 3-0. Fried complimented batterymate Austin Wells for keeping him focused while Goldschmidt felt he began to rebound at the plate towards the end of last season and it has carried over to the Bronx.

Jets

Jets rookie minicamp continued on Saturday as first-round pick Armand Membou worked on his technique with the coaches. The wide receivers and defensive backs went hard during their positional drills including safety Malachi Moore while edge rusher Tyler Baron refined his swim move in a one-on-one rep.

Both cornerback Azareye'h Thomas and safety Malachi Moore feel "blessed" to be rookies with the Jets organization, under the watchful eye of new head coach Aaron Glenn. Thomas says he's already being peppered with questions during positional meetings but has hit the playbook and feels prepared. Moore talked about living out his "childhood dream," of being an NFL player. He called the coaching staff demanding and he "loves it."

Clearly, the Knicks will need to make adjustments heading into Game 4 and according to Josh Hart and Mikal Bridges, it starts with being more aggressive on the defensive end. Both players thought the Celtics had too many good looks and were way too comfortable, hitting 20 three-pointers. Hart has faith though, that the team will respond with a much better performance in Game 4.

Knicks captain Jalen Brunson thought the Knicks were "subconsciously satisfied" up two games to none in their series with Boston. Not seemingly playing with a sense of urgency, New York had no answers in their 115-93 loss. Karl-Anthony Towns pointed to a lack of execution and mentioned that the Celtics "are defending champs for a reason."

Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau felt the team missed some shots early, fell into a deep hole they couldn't get out of and the result was a dominant performance by the Celtics to win Game 3, 115-93. Thibodeau did not see the same intensity and connection on the defensive end as the first two games but added, "we have to bounce back and we will."
