After David Peterson's worst start of the year against the Marlins on Saturday, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza admitted the lefty "just didn't have it right from the get go." Conversely, he was super impressed with Juan Soto's two-homer, two-stolen base performance and the possibility of a 30/30 season, calling him a "special player." In the end, Mendoza was more than satisfied with the offense putting up eight runs, but disappointed that the pitching staff was unable to keep the Marlins in check after the Mets battled back to tie the game.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza thought Jonah Tong delivered a strong effort in his big league debut. He was most impressed with Tong's curveball, given his already plus fastball and changeup. Mendoza also felt the long wait between innings while the Mets were putting up 12 runs early on made it tough on the rookie but he appreciated his competitiveness. As for the 19-run outburst, the Mets manager credited "good at-bats," up and down the lineup.
