The Mets top pitching prospects were at it again on Tuesday, dominating their opponents. Jonah Tong struck out eight hitters over five innings of shutout ball for Double-A Binghamton, dropping his ERA to 1.58. He fanned top Yankees prospect George Lombard Jr. twice with fastballs in the mid-90's. Nolan McLean pitched into the sixth inning for Triple-A Syracuse, not allowing a run and striking out six batters. He now has 113 strikeouts in 103.0 innings pitched between Double and Triple-A.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza addressed the team's struggling offense in their 3-2 loss to the Guardians saying "we really got nothing going after the second inning." He credited the Guardians with having a good game plan against the Mets hitters. Starter Clay Holmes produced a strong outing, striking out six and allowing two runs. He was pleased with the return of his bread and butter pitch, the sinker, after a period of ineffectiveness. Brandon Nimmo feels the best way for the team to bounce back is to "have a short-term memory" and that baseball has always been a game of streaks.

The Mets scored a run in each of the first two innings but were shut down the rest of the game, managing just four hits overall in a 3-2 loss to the Guardians. It was their fourth straight loss and seventh in the last eight games.

That coupled with a nearly three-hour rain delay turned the Yankees 7-4 win over the Rays into a marathon. Manager Aaron Boone is "excited" about the new additions to the relief core with closer Devin Williams adding that Camilo Doval throws "a hundred miles an hour." Giancarlo Stanton offered that the win made the endless wait worthwhile.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman spoke with the media about the team's acquisitions of relievers David Bednar, Camilo Doval and Jake Bird at the trade deadline. While he declared that no one was untouchable, his praise of top prospect Spencer Jones indicated that Cashman was certainly not close to dealing him.
