Former Mets ace Jacob deGrom appreciated the "cool" video tribute put together by the organization in his first trip back to the place where it all began, Citi Field. Asked if he thought his No. 48 might be retired one day by the Mets, he explained that it wasn't his decision to make but when he took the mound here, he always "gave it everything I had."

An emotional Jonah Tong "didn't have the start that I wanted," surrendering six runs to Texas and putting extra duress on the bullpen in the Mets 8-3 loss. Brandon Nimmo admitted to being "very concerned" that the team is not playing good baseball right now and their playoff spot is in jeopardy.

The first words Mets manager relayed to Mets rookie Jonah Tong when he pulled him from the game in the first inning was, "keep your head up." He feels Tong's maturity for his age will allow him to get through it. Mendoza went on to express the obvious frustration in the clubhouse with their seven game losing streak and a shaky hold on a wild card spot. "We have to find a way to get the job done tomorrow."

On the night Jacob deGrom returned to Citi Field, it was his teammates who took center stage, teeing off on Mets rookie Jonah Tong and sending him to early exit with six runs in the first inning. New York got a solo home run from Francisco Alvarez and managed to cut the deficit in half but deGrom proceeded to retire his last 15 hitters in a row, dismissing  any notions of a Mets comeback in their 8-3 loss.

Mets starter David Peterson was staked to a four-run lead in the first inning but "left a couple of pitches up, leading to a Phillies rally and an eventual 6-4 loss. Jeff McNeil had a rough night as well, misjudging a fly ball that allowed the tying run to score and "saw maybe one good pitch all night," from Jesus Luzardo as the Mets saw 25 consecutive batters go down after the opening inning.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza insists his team is still "in control of the situation" but that outlook is becoming more and more precarious after their sixth consecutive defeat. The Phillies' four-game sweep all but wrapped up the NL East division title for them. The Mets got to starter Jesus Luzardo in the first inning for five hits and four runs but then went hitless the rest of the game while the Phillies went on to score six unanswered runs in a 6-4 win.
