For the second straight game, the Mets were faced with a big deficit but on Wednesday night, there would be dramatic comeback as the Cubs pounded Jonah Tong and the Mets 10-3. Tong for his part, owned up to the ineffective start saying, "I didn't get the job done, they got to me." Mets manager Carlos Mendoza chose not to scoreboard watch while Francisco Lindor, admitted to "taking a peek," but added after the Reds also lost, "we still control our own destiny."

 Chris Suero homered and drove in four runs as the Mets Double-A affiliate Binghamton Rumble Ponies, captured the Eastern League title 8-2.

"Huge," said Mets manager Carlos Mendoza, referring to Brandon Nimmo's three-run homer and Francisco Alvarez going yard to give New York an enormous win. Mendoza was obviously concerned with another poor outing from starter David Peterson but proud of the way his team battled back down 6-1.

In an injury-plagued season, Francisco Alvarez was rewarded for his hard work, "super excited" to launch the eventual game-winning home run in the Mets win over the Cubs. Alvarez: "This team deserves to to be in the playoffs." Closer Edwin Diaz struck out five of the six batters he faced in pitching the eighth and ninth innings, Diaz was fully prepared for the six-out save but the most important thing was "getting the win."

Down 6-1 and the season on the verge of slipping away, the Mets staged their biggest comeback of 2025, pulling out a 9-7 win over the Cubs. Brandon Nimmo's three-run shot tied the game at six in a five-run fifth inning and Francisco Alvarez unloaded a two-run blast in the eighth to put them back up by two. Edwin DIaz then slammed the door with a six-out save as the Mets moved back ahead of the Reds in the Wild Card chase.

 Aaron Boone and Max Fried shared their admiration for Aaron Judge after the Yankees captain launched home runs 50 and 51, providing Fried with a lead he would not relinquish. The 8-1 win over the White Sox coupled with a Toronto loss, moved the Yankees back into a tie atop the American League East. Judge however, wants the team to "keep playing our game" and not worry about the standings.
