An emotional Jonah Tong "didn't have the start that I wanted," surrendering six runs to Texas and putting extra duress on the bullpen in the Mets 8-3 loss. Brandon Nimmo admitted to being "very concerned" that the team is not playing good baseball right now and their playoff spot is in jeopardy.

The first words Mets manager relayed to Mets rookie Jonah Tong when he pulled him from the game in the first inning was, "keep your head up." He feels Tong's maturity for his age will allow him to get through it. Mendoza went on to express the obvious frustration in the clubhouse with their seven game losing streak and a shaky hold on a wild card spot. "We have to find a way to get the job done tomorrow."

On the night Jacob deGrom returned to Citi Field, it was his teammates who took center stage, teeing off on Mets rookie Jonah Tong and sending him to early exit with six runs in the first inning. New York got a solo home run from Francisco Alvarez and managed to cut the deficit in half but deGrom proceeded to retire his last 15 hitters in a row, dismissing  any notions of a Mets comeback in their 8-3 loss.
