Mets 2023 first-round pick Colin Houck belted a three-run HR for St. Lucie, finishing the game with four RBI. Drew Gilbert had a double, single and walked twice for Triple-A Syracuse and Brooklyn's Eli Serrano broke open a close game with two-run double in a Cyclones victory.

Mets infielder Brett Baty said it's definitely been "gratifying" to be performing well at the major league level. His solo home run in the seventh inning proved to be the game-winner, a "huge" hit for the team. Starter Kodai Senga sensed it would be low scoring game and was determined to keep the Pirates off the board. Senga escaped trouble throughout, crediting catcher Francisco Alvarez with a good gameplan. Though Pittsburgh would eventually tie the game, Senga was impressed with Baty's long ball and his overall transformation at the plate.

For Mets manager Carlos Mendoza, the difference in Baty's game is pretty simple: "confidence." He indicated that it takes some young players longer than others and Baty now knows he belongs in the big leagues. Mendoza also commented on how "impressive" starter Kodai Senga was, striking out seven using his "unbelievable forkball."

Kodai Senga struck out seven, Brett Baty smacked the go-ahead home run in the seventh inning, and Edwin Diaz escaped a ninth-inning jam as the Mets edged the Pirates 2-1.

When Yankees first baseman Ben Rice said hitting can definitely be "contagious," he wasn't kidding. The offense exploded for 10 runs in the seventh inning as they turned a one-run game into a 12-3 rout of San Diego. Austin Wells belted a grand slam and had five RBI, Rice had a pair of hits and two RBI. Starter Clarke Schmidt allowed just two runs over six innings and got to talk a little smack with former teammate Michael King after the Yankees win.

Aaron Judge spoke with the media after the Yankees' 7-5 loss to the Rays at Yankee Stadium on Sunday to discuss the disappointment in losing a series to a division rival, while Cody Bellinger touched on his feelings of accomplishment after hitting his 200th career home run.

Aaron Judge and Austin Wells both hit solo home runs but the rest of the lineup couldn't solve Rays starter Zack Littell in the Yankees 3-2 loss. Manager Aaron Boone and lead-off man Cody Bellinger both credited Littell with keeping the hitters guessing. Boone lamented the fateful eighth inning when Tampa mustered a two-run rally to take the lead saying their hits "had eyes." Starter Ryan Yarbrough pitched into the fifth  inning allowing just one hit but walking three batters which he said "was not the start I was looking for."

Max Fried tossed seven innings of one-hit ball and Paul Goldschmidt provided all the offense the Yankees would need with a three-run homer as they shut out the Rays 3-0. Fried complimented batterymate Austin Wells for keeping him focused while Goldschmidt felt he began to rebound at the plate towards the end of last season and it has carried over to the Bronx.

Clarke Schmidt was thrilled to return to a packed house at Yankee Stadium for his first start of the season, tossing a strong 5.2 innings. Captain Aaron Judge snapped a 3-3 tie with a solo home run in the seventh inning and reliever Fernando Cruz took on the closer role with Devin Williams unavailable. Cruz got the job done but needed a little help from Cody Bellinger, who made a diving catch in the ninth inning to preserve the win.

Jets

Jets rookie minicamp continued on Saturday as first-round pick Armand Membou worked on his technique with the coaches. The wide receivers and defensive backs went hard during their positional drills including safety Malachi Moore while edge rusher Tyler Baron refined his swim move in a one-on-one rep.

Both cornerback Azareye'h Thomas and safety Malachi Moore feel "blessed" to be rookies with the Jets organization, under the watchful eye of new head coach Aaron Glenn. Thomas says he's already being peppered with questions during positional meetings but has hit the playbook and feels prepared. Moore talked about living out his "childhood dream," of being an NFL player. He called the coaching staff demanding and he "loves it."
