Austin Romine came through clutch for the Yankees with a game-tying single in the eighth inning after the bullpen squandered a 5-0 lead.

Then he did it again in the 10th.

Romine's walk-off single helped the Yankees salvage a 7-6 win over the Royals on Sunday at Yankee Stadium.

"We were able to scrap," Romine said, according to Newsday's Laura Albanese.

Chad Green and Adam Ottavino spoiled James Paxton's stellar performance -- 12 strikeouts in six scoreless innings -- by allowing six runs in the top of the eighth inning, Ottavino surrendering a three-run homer to Alex Gordon and a solo homer to Hunter Dozier back-to-back.

But with two outs and Mike Tauchman on third base, Romine singled to left to tie the game at 6.

"It's a big swing," said Romine, who has been the team's starting catcher with Gary Sanchez on the injured list. "We're up 5-0 and we go down one, but nothing really that caught us off guard. We've got to do our jobs in the end, so it was grind, fight back, find some way to win this game."

And Romine was the player who stepped up again two innings later. After back-to-back walks to Tauchman and Gio Urshela, a Thairo Estrada sac bunt put runners on second and third with one out.

"A lot of good things happened for us to snatch that game back," manager Aaron Boone said, according to the Associated Press.

Romine launched an Ian Kennedy curveball into the right-center field gap for the walk-off.

"It's just one of those things," Clint Frazier said. "Which guy is going to be the hero tonight, who's it going to be that steps up?"

With Sanchez expected to return to the lineup later this week, Romine knows he'll likely be the backup again. But with so many players on the injured list -- Aaron Judge the latest -- it's a team effort all around.

"There's a couple guys that are irreplaceable here, but we've got to find a way to do it," Romine said. "We're still winning games. We've got guys stepping up left and right."

On Sunday, that was Romine.
