Giants head coach Joe Judge certainly knew what he was getting when he brought in Jerry Schuplinski as his quarterbacks coach. The two coached together with the Patriots for six years from 2013-2018.

Schuplinski joined the Dolphins in 2019 as their assistant quarterbacks coach, where former Jet quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was one of his charges. The 14-year NFL veteran was more than impressed with what he saw from him.

"I got to see it from two different sides," Fitzpatrick told The Post. "He had to talk to me, treat me and coach me a different way than maybe he had to treat young guys like Josh Rosen and Jake Rudock in our room. His ability to know who he was teaching and the way that guy learned - and adapt based on who he was talking with - is one of his huge strengths."

Schuplinski will be using more of the way he coached Rosen and Rudock than he did Fitzpatrick, as he gets ready to lead a quarterback room that will feature Daniel Jones, who heads into his second NFL season as the undisputed Giants starting quarterback. Fitzpatrick says Schuplinski's overall understanding an offensive gameplan is another one of his key abilities as a coach.

"It worked well with me because he sees the game as a quarterback," Fitzpatrick said. "It's not just understanding what we do at wide receiver, tight end or offensive line. He understands conceptually everything that's going on, which sounds simple but there aren't a lot of coaches who see it that way."

It's high praise from Fitzpatrick, who notes that he's seen his fair share of coaches as someone who's been with eight different teams over the course of his career.

"For me, as a veteran guy who has had a ton of quarterback coaches, he understands the game really well so we were able to talk about it at a pretty high level," Fitzpatrick said. "It's a tough loss for the Dolphins, but I think it's a great move for New York."
