Six things to know from Thursday's game

1) Trying to protect a 3-1 lead after the Mets' late heroics, Edwin Diaz issued a leadoff walk before serving up a game-tying two-run homer to Maikel Franco on an 0-2 pitch. After recording one out, Diaz walked another batter before allowing a single to Scott Kingery as the Phillies put runners on first and second. Jean Segura followed by blasting a game-winning three-run homer as the Mets fell, 6-3.

2) The Mets entered the ninth having mustered only one hit and trailing, 1-0. After Pete Alonso grounded out, Michael Conforto singled and Todd Frazier ripped a two-run homer to left field off Hector Neris to give the Mets a 2-1 lead. Dominic Smith and Wilson Ramos then hit back-to-back singles, putting runners on the corners for Amed Rosario, whose slow roller to first base drove in Smith to up the lead to 3-1.

3) With Aaron Nola cruising, the Mets didn't notch their first hit of the game until Zack Wheeler snuck a grounder up the middle leading off the sixth inning as the Mets were shut down by the duo of Nola and Juan Nicasio. Things changed in the ninth inning, when Neris entered.

4) Zack Wheeler was nearly as brilliant as Nola, holding the Phillies to one run on two hits while walking two and striking out seven in 6.0 innings. The one major blemish was the solo homer he served up to Bryce Harper in the sixth inning. Because of more than 30 foul balls by Philadelphia, Wheeler threw 107 pitches -- leading to him being unable to go deep in the game.

5) Robinson Cano pinch-hit in the eighth inning and struck out, bringing his OPS for the season down to .628. Cano, who was getting a scheduled day off before pinch-hitting, has just four hits in his last 33 at-bats.

6) The Mets' bullpen, which blew the first three games of the series, kept the Phillies off the board in the seventh and eighth, with Brooks Pounders (pitching out of a second and third, one-out jam in the seventh) and Chris Flexen doing the honors.
