Here's the latest news and buzz on the Mets' top prospects...

OF Drew Gilbert

Gilbert has had a bit of a rough time at the plate since returning from a long stint on the injured list, going just 6-for-29 (.207) with one RBI over eight games. The young slugger did open August by reaching base three times including a pair of doubles, so perhaps he'll be able to get things going down the stretch to close out the season.

1B/OF Ryan Clifford

Clifford has hit a bit of a skid after his tremendous stretch at the plate, recording just one hit while striking out seven times over his last 18 at-bats. The youngster recently spoke with SNY's Joe DeMayo about his impressive rise as a prospect, as he's posted an .835, OPS with 13 home runs, 16 doubles, 38 RBI, and 42 walks in Double-A.

INF Luisangel Acuna

Acuna has missed the past four games after being scratched from Thursday's lineup due to a sore foot. The speedster had been swinging a hot bat prior to that, hitting .289 with three extra-base hits and six RBI over the last 10 games in July. He's slashing .262/.311/.357 with five homers, five triples, 14 doubles, 37 RBI and 31 stolen bases on the season.

RHP Brandon Sproat

Sproat continues to dominate his way through the organization, cruising to a career-best outing to earn a promotion to Syracuse. The right-hander struck out 13 batters, 11 of which were in a row, across five shutout innings this weekend. If he continues pitching this way over his first few outings in Triple-A, he just might be a factor for the big league club down the stretch this season.

RHP Jonah Tong

Tong has settled into a groove after a bit of a rough stretch following his promotion to Brooklyn, and he put together another strong effort this week, allowing just two runs and striking out 10 across 5.1 innings of work. The young right-hander now has an impressive 2.60 ERA and 1.12 WHIP with 124 punchouts in 19 games this season.

C Kevin Parada

Parada has been swinging a hot bat since the beginning of July, hitting .293 with five doubles, three homers, eight RBI, a .391 on-base percentage, and an .871 OPS across 23 games. The backstop has put together five multi-hit showings over that span, but he's also struck out 29 times.

RHP Mike Vasil

Vasil had a bit of a rough showing on Sunday, but he put together one of his best outings of the year earlier this week, allowing just one run on four hits while walking two and striking out eight across seven innings. He's pitched past the sixth inning in six of his last eight outings, and he's recorded five quality starts over that span.

UTL Luke Ritter

Ritter has been tearing the cover off the ball all season, and he's been scorching hot of late, hitting .345 with four doubles, two triples, five homers, 24 RBI, and a 1.067 OPS over 26 games. The 26-year-old is still looking to make his big league debut, and he's making an awfully strong case, with 26 home runs -- leading all Mets minor leaguers.
