No Patrick Corbin, no problem for Yankees manager Aaron Boone.

Boone said Wednesday on ESPN's The Michael Kay Show that he's happy with the current look of the Yankees rotation after the top free agent starter signed a six-year, $140 million megadeal with the Nationals a day prior.

"Absolutely," Boone said. "I feel like we're trying to improve now on the margins. We know we have the players capable of winning the ultimate prize and we can do that now. Now, it's a little more difficult, obviously we need players to emerge, to step up, for things to happen. But absolutely, we have the nucleus already in place to be an elite team again."

Boone seems to be on the same page as Yankees president Randy Levine, who said this week that the team is already "as good as the Red Sox."

But Yankees GM Brian Cashman has been vocal about his desire to add another top starter after he acquired lefty James Paxton from the Mariners last month. The 30-year-old Paxton joined a rotation that currently consists of Luis Severino, Masahiro Tanaka and CC Sabathia.

Corbin, a two-time All-Star who grew up in upstate New York, shared a mutual interest with the Yankees, even paying the team a visit in the Bronx that included dinner last week.

But the Yankees weren't willing to budge from their five-year offer to Corbin, sources told SNY's Andy Martino. Instead, he went with the years and the money in Washington.

Boone said he wasn't surprised at the outcome.

"I wouldn't say I was surprised," he said. "I certainly knew we were obviously very interested. We had Patrick and his wife in last week and got to go to dinner and spend some time with him. We knew there were other teams obviously that were going to be very involved. Obviously in the end the Nationals really stepped up with a big commitment. No, I don't necessarily think I went into it surprised. I knew we liked the player and had hopes of bringing him here, but we also feel like there are other ways we can go to really improve our club and are confident we can continue to work hard at that and get something done over the course of this winter."

The Yankees are still pursuing J.A. Happ but are unsure if they want to offer a multi-year contract to the 36-year-old, per Martino.

Cashman could also enter trade talks with Cleveland for fellow starters Corey Kluber and Carlos Carrasco. The Yankees could also seek to bring back Nathan Eovaldi after his stellar postseason with the World Series champion Red Sox.
